Head of Room and Nursery Practitioner

Both posts are for a lovely new nursery in the area of St Albans. This is a small to medium size setting and requires someone with excellent organisational skills. Excellent rates of pay, bonuses and benefits with ongoing support and career development.

Head of Room   Contact

You will be an experienced (2 years +) Nursery Nurse / Practitioner looking for career progression or a Head of Room looking for a new challenge.

You will be someone who is able to lead and support a team in continuing to provide excellent standards of care and education.

You will have proven track record in developing positive relationships with parents in order to provide excellent customer service at all times.

You will need to have the following qualifications, training and experience:

  • NNEB, CACHE level 3, NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • Knowledge of OFSTED standards
  • Excellent knowledge of the EYFS
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work to targets and deadlines
  • Good time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of equal opportunities/SENCO etc.
  • Previous relevant supervisory experience

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • To achieve and maintain high standards of care and education
  • To effectively lead and manage the staff team including recruitment and retention, providing day to day guidance, training and support to all staff
  • To ensure all policies, procedures and curriculums are implemented and adhered to at all times
  • To attend team meetings & planning meetings.
  • To assist and supervise the training of students.
  • Responsible for the completion of Learning Journeys and Pathway Profiles within the allotted timescales.
  • To participate in and take advantage of training courses available, ensuring that you keep up to date with current Early Years thinking.
  • To maintain confidentiality.
  • To work within a Children’s Centre – being aware of the needs of families, liaising with other professionals and ‘signposting’ families accordingly.
  • To work in both the Baby Room and Preschool Room as required.
  • Operate within Best Friends aims and purposes and to have respect for the values and a readiness to uphold them
  • Operate within the Best Friends policies and procedures; Equality, Diversity & Involvement, Safeguarding & Protection, Service Quality & Provision, Health & Safety, Data & Information Confidentiality, The Environment and Finance & Accounting.
  • Recognise the importance of our responsibility and our duty of care to safeguard the welfare of and to protect all children, young people and vulnerable adults with whom we work.
  • To keep abreast of current early childhood thinking/trends
  • To implement an effective parent liaison programme, to be influential in developing strong links with parents.
  • To assist and manage all day to day operations of the nursery in conjunction with the  duty manager

Nursery Practitioner   Contact

You will need to have the following qualifications, training and experience:

  • Must have the relevant level 2 or 3 Childcare Qualification or equivalent.

  • Sound knowledge of Early Years Foundation Stage.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To help plan and provide a wide range of activities to meet the needs of all the children –encouraging the children to become independent learners.
  • To maintain a high standard of hygiene and encourage the children to do the same.
  • To be consistent and conduct him or her in a professional manner at all times.
  • To abide by the policies of the setting and put them into practice.
  • To work with and support other members of staff as part of a team.
  • To attend team meetings & planning meetings.
  • Responsible for the completion of Learning Journeys and Pathway Profiles within the allotted timescales.

  • To liaise with parents and carers of children to whom they are the ‘key person’ and discuss all matters relating to their child.

  • To maintain confidentiality.
  • To work within a Children’s Centre – being aware of the needs of families, liaising with other professionals and ‘signposting’ families accordingly.
