| Description |
Once Upon a Time Day Nurseries’ Uxbridge Baby Nursery is conveniently situated in central Uxbridge; just a 3-minute walk from the bus and underground train stations. |
| The baby nursery is well-established, is open all year round from 8am-6pm and takes children from 3 months - 3 years. We offer both full day care and part time places. |
| |
| We are a High/Scope based nursery and believe that children should be given choice and have opportunities to access all areas freely. We achieve this by having a wide range of equipment out throughout the day, which is at the children's level. |
| |
Each child has a ‘special week’ where children can bring in photos of their family and favourite toys; these are displayed in our hallway and shared with the children at group times
We are an inclusive setting with 2 Inclusion Co-ordinators who attend regular training courses. We also have staff with “sing-a-long” certificates, and this is included within our daily routine. We work very closely with outside agencies to support children, families and the staff team with regard to any child who may have additional needs. |

ROOMS
Within our setting, we have two big bright rooms which we have made into one linked, large area to enable the children to flow and rotate freely to each activity. This layout gives the children direct access to a wide range of experiences such as the Book Area, Art Area, Sand and Water Trays, Construction, Small World Area, House Area and Soft baby Area. Other activities include painting, sticking, oblick, play dough, building and much more. |

In the larger of the 2 rooms, we have a low panel dividing off a soft area for the non-mobile babies. This area is packed safely away after lunch and is where the children sleep between 12 - 2 pm. If the children wish to sleep at other times of the day, then we place them in a quiet area away from the noisy activities. Other areas such as the house area, construction area, small world Area, and book area are also situated in this room.
In the other main room are the art area, sand and water trays, easel, table for focused weekly activity and the feeding area. We have linked the 2 rooms as one by placing safety gates across the hallway. |

OUR STAFF
When children start at our nursery we offer a settling in period a week before the child's start date, where we invite the child/ren and parents to come and see part of our daily routine so the child/ren can familiarise themselves with the keyworker, other staff and the environment they will be cared for in. This also allows the parents to ask any questions they may have before their child starts.
Your child/ren will be allocated with a key person who will work closely with you both. Daily sheets are completed to enable parents to be aware of what their child has eaten, sleep times, nappy times and bottle times. Each week you will also receive a Homelink book within which the keyworker writes to inform parents about how there child has been at nursery and activities that they have taken part in. This is a good way of communicating with the parents and we invite parents to write back so we can see what the family has been doing at the weekend and parents are more than welcome to write any other comments whether it be to do with development or changes to bottle times etc. |
| |
Updated by the key person monthly, is a development pack where the children's development is recorded and shared with parents at parent’s evenings, which we hold twice a year. Activity planning is completed by the key person of each child and follows the Birth to Three Matters framework to cover all aspects of learning and development. Within our planning we cover festivals and topics.
All our staff are experienced / qualified and work closely with each child to develop their learning and development in all areas. Staff undergo regular training to gain further knowledge and understanding of the childcare field. |

OUTSIDE AREA
We have an outside grassed area in which the children access daily, with equipment such as bikes, tunnels, balls, slides, cars, sand and water tray and seesaws. Each day we have an outside ‘focus activity,’ which include activities such as painting, crayoning, house area, dressing up, the parachute, music and movement, singing and construction toys. In the summer months we provide gazebos for shade and allow the children access to the paddling pool.
We often take the children on local visits to the park, library, common, and to feed the ducks. To cover our topics the children participate in visits to the Police Station, aquariums, bus and train station, nature walks and in the summer on a 1:1 basis we take children to the local swimming pool. |
DIETARY INFORMATION
Once Upon a Time promotes healthy eating. We do this by providing freshly prepared cooked food ranging from meat dishes, pasta dishes, vegetables, salads and taking into consideration cultural foods. Puddings include fruit, yoghurts, rice pudding and home-made fruit pies. We cater for children with allergies and any other dietary needs. We offer the younger babies who are beginning the weaning process a variety of food in pureed or mashed form. Breakfast includes cereals and toast and snacks include a wide range of fresh and dried fruits and a biscuit in the evening. Hot and cold afternoon teas are served along with a selection of fruit in the afternoon. Drinks are provided throughout the day and children can access these by looking at their unique symbols or the younger babies by staff frequently offering them. Lunch and tea is on a 4 week cycle with a different lunch and tea every day; parents are informed in advance if occasionally we change a dish due to celebrating seasonal events. We include parents in devising our menus in order to ensure they are happy with the foods being offered. |
